Stansted House: a chauffeured day
Stansted House, with the car waiting while you visit. Visitors see State Rooms furnished as if the 10th Earl were still at home, then the servants' quarters below stairs. A charitable foundation preserves the estate's Grade I and II* listed buildings and its surrounding parkland. It is a Grade II* listed building. Opening days change through the year; check the house's own calendar before you travel. For now: stansted House and the Chapel of St Paul are closed for the season, with special openings on 6, 13, 20, 21 and 22 December.

How the day runs
From Mayfair it is around an hour and 50 minutes by way of the M4, M25 and A3; from Heathrow around an hour and 26 minutes; from Oxford around an hour and 59 minutes. Uppark House is around 21 minutes on if you want a second house. The chauffeur waits on the estate or nearby while you see the house and gardens.
